Locks of Love

In honor of one of our own, Jewels Dance participated in Locks of Love. We challenged all of our company dancers (and Moms too!) to agree that from June 14th, 2007 to June 14th, 2008, they would not cut their hair. On June 14th, 2008 (the weekend after recital) we went TOGETHER as a studio and had our hair cut to donate to LOCKS OF LOVE. This gave everyone a full year of growing to meet the length requirement (10 inches) to donate and also gave us nearly a full year to have growth for the next year’s competition/recital season. As added incentive, Miss Julie made the commitment that for each dancer who participated, received a special surprise from her personally in honor of their compassion.

It’s not too late! If you would like to make the commitment to help these children feel brighter about themselves and have a better outlook on their future, and honor one of our own, please see a staff member at the front desk for more information. THANK YOU!!!!!! We love you, Miss Amy!

On June 15th, 2008, many of our company dancers, faculty members and a handful of company moms made a group donation to Locks of Love.  Hair by Scott and Co. hosted the event at their Delray Beach salon.  Every employee from Hair by Scott and Co. donated their time that day as well.  We began this journey together as a company over a year ago.  Little did we know, we would end up honoring one of our beloved own, Amy Teitelbaum, who lost her battle to cancer in March of 2008.  I would like to acknowledge and thank the following people for their participation in this generous event: All the stylists and employees of Hair by Scott and Co.

I am amazed and speechless at the character of each and everyone of our dancers who participated.  I knew when we began this journey a year ago that it would be a powerful moment, the day we all got together and did something in honor of someone we love, but I had no idea the pride and gratitude I would experience and how blessed I would feel to know that they are all such a wonderful representation of genuine love and high character.  It was a selfless thing they did that Sunday, giving away something that is so precious to a dancer (not to mention to a tween, a teenager or a mom) and it was done with such enthusiasm and joy and without regret.  I knew we had several people signed up, but it was too cool to see the people who decided at the last minute, "You know what?  This is a good thing ... I can do this!"  and they did it!  Right then and there!!!!!  Wow!  My Jewels Dance family continues to amaze me and fill my heart.  I thank them all for what they did and I am abundantly proud of each and every one of them.   I cannot say thank you enough to the staff of Scott and Co.  Each one there with us that day donated their time on their day off (not to mention Father's Day).  They were so generous to us to not only do the cutting for the donations, but to give each of us a style we were happy with AND to blow dry our hair for us so we could walk away feeling good about not only what we had done, but also how we looked.  That is a special gift.  Perhaps we can give a little back to them.  If you liked the way your hair was cut, go back and see them again!

I believe in my heart that we truly honored Amy and Marcos that day.  It will be a day I will always remember with love, pride and gratitude.
